Introduction to My Y2k

Welcome to my Y2k site.

This site contains my experiences and thoughts from the last few days of 1999 and the first days of 2000. In its creation I owe a great deal to those dear friends who spent those last and first hours with me. Particular thanks go to Darren for capturing the event on film.

Like many others in 1999, I approached December 31 with a mix of excitement and fear. Noone really knew what would happen when the clocks turned over, and a lot of people wanted something to happen. Being a programmer, I had a fairly good idea that planes weren't going to fall out of the sky. Not because of computer error, anyway. Human Error is a whole different question.

One thing that was obvious to me as the end of the 1990s approached was the fact that people tend to make bad judgements when things get tense. I knew there was going to be lot of tension when the sun set on Friday, and I was expecting trouble. I was expecting one or two human systems to crack under the pressure... Even in quiet old Narooma.
